A saddle designed to improve e-bike safety, comfort and riding performance.
Together with Selle Royal, the leading Italian manufacturer of bicycle saddles and accessories, Designworks undertook the first ever, comprehensive study of e-bike users to determine performance characteristics that could benefit from an e-bike specific saddle design. Selle Royal tasked Designworks with designing an e-bike saddle that would be “born electric”. The result is eZone: The first saddle specifically developed to improve e-bike safety, comfort and riding performance.
A key finding in the consumer-centered research process at Designworks was that, when accelerating, e-bike users are experiencing a different kind of compression force compared to standard bicycle seats. Acceleration support, extraordinary comfort, and handling ease were identified as the three main drivers to the design.
As a result, Designworks created a zone-based saddle concept. The seat with three ride zones features flexible wings to cater for enhanced control as well as to support balance and add safety. The unique design communicates to the users that this is a different kind of saddle in a new bicycle segment.
ADDED SAFETY DURING ACCELERATION THROUGH A ZONE BASED CONCEPT.
ELEVATED REAR SECTION TO PREVENT BACKWARD SLIDING WHEN ACCELERATING.
“It was great to work with Designworks, as it brought their knowledge in electronic mobility design together with our expertise and experience within cycling. We’ve created something special in a rather unexplored field within the industry”, Lara Cunico, Marketing Manager at Selle Royal.
