What It’s Like to Be a Working Student at Designworks

From unexpected lessons to real-world responsibilities, we caught up with Kenzy from our Munich Studio to hear what it’s like to be a working student at Designworks.
Kenzy joined Designworks while completing her Bachelor’s degree in Media Informatics, a multidisciplinary field that combines computer science, design, and digital media. From day one, she has been part of the Marketing team, transforming project content into engaging social media posts and reels that offer a glimpse behind the scenes of our projects and studio culture.
What impressed us most about Kenzy was how effortlessly she combined technical understanding, creative insight, and strong interpersonal skills to develop fresh ideas and bring them to life efficiently with a team that is always busy. Kenzy is a great example of how interns and working students at Designworks do more than support the team. They actively help shape the communication agenda.
As part of her training with us, she recently took part in a rapid-fire interview; a fun exercise designed to capture her insights while developing an essential communication skill: keeping things short and impactful.
So what does KENZY’S Designworks journey feel like on a daily basis?
Why did you choose to come to Munich?
I had visited Munich as a kid with my parents and loved it, so the idea of moving away from home to a place I already had fond memories of made sense to me. It’s also no secret that Munich is known for its excellent universities and strong connection between academia and industry.
What does your daily routine look like?
At Designworks, there is no routine really: It actually varies quite a bit from day to day, which is something I really enjoy. I support the team with external communications, help create presentations, plan events and manage communications on-site, develop strategic content plans, create social media reels, coordinate speaker placements, and support the New Business team with their Middle East engagements. No two weeks are ever the same, I never know what the next week will bring.
Designworks in less than 10 words?
Unapologetically authentic, in thinking, creating, and pushing ideas further.
Biggest surprise?
How seriously your ideas are taken, even as a working student. There’s real trust in young voices here, you’re not just supporting, you’re shaping things. And coming from my background, it feels like different perspectives aren’t just accepted, they’re genuinely valued.
Your biggest learning?
That great work is never created in isolation. It evolves through feedback, collaboration, and continuous iteration. Asking questions doesn’t make you seem incapable. It shows curiosity and initiative. Often, success comes down to asking the right questions at the right time to see the full picture.
When did you feel like a real contributor?
When something I created contributed to how the brand was perceived.
Biggest “aha” moment?
Realizing that design isn’t just about making things look good, but about creating meaning and impact. And understanding that no matter how much detail you think you’ve covered, there’s always more beneath the surface.
One skill you’ll keep forever?
Making complexity feel simple and worth paying attention to. From design to communication, everything should be curated with intention.
Advice to your younger self?
Relax. You’re already more ready than you think. Your opinion is valued.
FUN FACT
Kenzy, brings a unique cultural perspective shaped by growing up in Egypt and attending a German school in Cairo. The team often jokes that sometimes she seems to be “more German than some Germans,” a comment that regularly sparks lighthearted moments in the Munich studio.
